Office tale Adriana Celis and Konstantina Stamatiadis, owners of Pina Mercury

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you:
We are Adriana and Konstantina from Pina Mercury, a new brand based in Montreal. We empower independent art performers through a clothing line designed for creative souls.

Your current job:
Adriana Celis: Full time at Pina Mercury as creative director, costume designer and production coordinator.
Konstantina Stamatiadis: Part time at Pina Mercury as Business Analyst; Part time at an International Organization.

In which city are you located?
Montréal

A word to define what kind of worker you are:
Experimental

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc.)
Adriana: an inspiring artist or project, fabric, my sewing machines, a cutting table and an iron
Konstantina: art, my laptop, soundcloud and good internet speed

What does your office space look like?
It’s something like Mary Poppins’ suitcase.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working?
Adriana: Something like Rhye, Flight Facilities, Air, Mercedes Sosa, Basement Jaxx, Quantic… House music and Salsa to cheer up. If I’m in a more automatic process like cutting or sewing I listen to different interviews of people I want to learn from.
Konstantina: Poolside, Buena Vista Social Club, Rhye, Nicolas Jaar, and others playlists to see what new things I can find.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work?
Adriana:  Keeping myself as busy as I can. Dead lines. I don’t have a specific routine, sometimes I exercise first thing, other days I dance at night. Sometimes I don’t leave the workshop until 4am… However I always engage as much as possible.
Konstantina: Exercising in the morning always empowers my day.

What tips would you give to improve productivity?
Build the best team possible. At the beginning it’s hard but the idea of entrepreneurship is creating something that can go on without you, it’s not about you. If someone else can do what you are doing find that person and focus in what you know how to do best. No social media without a schedule, a plan nor a purpose. A Calendar with all the important dates, plan ahead. Don’t wait until you’re 100% ready to go out there, stop thinking and get on it.

You’re better than your colleagues at:
Adriana: Visualizing, taking risks, keeping in mind the big picture, building great relationships.
Konstantina: Listening, understanding reality and trying to make impossible ideas possible.

What is the best advice anyone has given you?
Adriana: Don’t deal with fear, dance with it.
Konstantina: Embrace the glorious mess you are.

What is your best tip for saving time?
Adriana: Time is not my best friend… For people like me I guess the best tip would be to work with someone who’s really great at it. I’ve learned I lot.
Konstantina: know your stuff.

What is your routine start and end of the day?
Adriana: I don’t have one. Routine can easily kill my spirit.
Konstantina: end of the day, I always look for something out of the ordinary for an afternoon/night.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?
Adriana: Good scissors and fresh air.
Konstantina: a notebook and the street.
