Office tale of Moby Digg studio

Office tale of Moby Digg studio

Published by Leonardo Calcagno

Who are you :

We are Moby Digg, a design studio based in Munich, working in the field of curation, culture and commerce. We create vivid visual identities and unique digital experiences, connecting the best of design and technology. The studio was founded by Maximilian Heitsch and Korbinian Lenzer in Buenos Aires.

Your current job :

Our working field spreads from graphic design to code. We are designers and creative coders at the same time, which influences the way we work significantly. In our understanding we extend graphic design with the opportunities state-of-the-art technologies give us.

In which city are you located?

After we founded Moby Digg in Buenos Aires, we opened our studio in Munich wherefrom we are working since then. In contrast to the widely shared notion, Munich is a good base for creative work.

A word to define what kind of worker you are :

What really drives us is our passion and curiosity for design, code and the combination of the two. With each project we try to push our own claim.

What tools are essential to your life (app, software, etc..)

If we would have to pick only one it would be SoundCloud most definitely, as we are listening to a lot of music and also share our musical discoveries with each other.

What does your office space look like?

In December 2015 we moved into our new studio, which offers much more space then the previous one. Now we have a 300 square meter open space studio, close the Munich central station, which is quite exceptionally for a city as Munich, where space is luxury good. We transformed the former warehouse into a nice place with lots of room for everyone, integrated a chill-out and relaxing area with couches, as well as a big kitchen, where we cook lunch at least three times a week.

What kind of music do you listen when you are working ?

Most of the time we are listening to electronic music, because we like the balance between not getting distracted but riding the wave of driving beats.

Do you have a way to organize your day to maximize your work ?

Focus is key for us. Therefore we claim the right not to be distracted for a certain amount of time. Sometimes we also shut down all messengers and mail clients for a while so we not get ripped out of work.

What tips would you give to improve productivity ?

Each Monday we have a meeting with the team, to discuss all current and upcoming projects. Although we are no big fans of bureaucracy it helps to set priorities for the week in order to save time for internal projects, experiments and personal works.

What is the best advice anyone has given you ?

Keep searching and exploring.

What is your best tip for saving time ?

Focus on one task, finish it and then move to the next. If you switch between different assignments frequently you only scratch the surface of what could be accomplished if you would have focused on it.

What is your routine start and end of the day ?

Usually we start the day with drinking coffee and having a short chat in the kitchen. For the end of the day we do not have any routine yet.

Aside from your computer and your phone, what gadget can you not you go without?

Definitely our headphones.
